Free Theatre Initiative

Free theatre initiative logoOakengates Theatre @ The Place is delighted to announce that it has been accepted as part of a national scheme to offer free tickets to under 26 year olds, meaning that thousands of young people in the region will be able to attend theatre for free from February 2009.

The scheme is supported by £2.5 million additional funding to the Arts Council's core grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Oakengates Theatre @ The Place is one of 99 venues up and down the country selected to take part in the two year project - allowing almost 3,500 free tickets to be on offer to young people in the borough across a range of shows during the project.

With hundreds of tickets issued so far, here's what one of our patrons said after they visited -

"I like the A Night Less Ordinary scheme, because it means I can come and see shows that I wouldn't normally see (usually because I can't afford the ticket price). Recently, I saw Oddsocks perform Romeo & Juliet at Oakengates Theatre. I wouldn't normally go and see a show like this, but I decided to because it was on the initiative. I had a great night out, and I really enjoyed the performance!"
